href=\"https:\/\/euroclio.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EuroClio\u2014European Association of History Educators<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in partnership with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/terraforming.org\/en\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Terraforming<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intercultural.ro\/en\/home-page\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Intercultural Institute Timi\u0219oara<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/arolsen-archives.org\/en\/search-explore\/search-online-archive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arolsen Archives<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014invites <\/span><b>history teachers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> living in Germany, Romania, Serbia and other countries to apply for the <\/span><b>International Teacher Training Seminar<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> focused on the pedagogy of place-based learning within the context of a<\/span><b> local history project<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> about the history of <\/span><b>victims of Nazi persecution and crimes committed during the Second World War by Nazi collaborators.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The training will take place in <\/span><b>Timisoara, Romania,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on<\/span><b> 8 and 9 August<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with 7 August <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as the day of arrival.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Seminar is part of the project <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/euroclio.eu\/projects\/facts-not-fiction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facts Not Fiction\u2014Young Historians Show How to Learn from the Past<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, funded by the European Union. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This project will set up students to develop their own local history projects about different groups of people that were persecuted by the Nazis and their collaborators. By conducting local research, accessing historical sources, and collaborating with different institutions such as <\/span><b>archives<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>museums<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, students gain tools to share their unique knowledge with a <\/span><b>wider audience in their community<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and share personal histories of victims that are lesser-known. This will invite students to step into the shoes of <\/span><b>public historians<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rise of new media has made history more accessible, yet often unreliable. Misconceptions, such as the belief that only Jews suffered under Nazi crimes and crimes committed by Nazi collaborators, perpetuate discrimination and misinformation. The project seeks to empower youth to counter these tendencies by becoming <\/span><b>informed historians<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and leaders in raising awareness about the history of the Holocaust and Nazi persecution, and its relevance today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For this Seminar, we are looking for Team Members who <\/span><b>implement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> place-based learning local history projects with <\/span><b>their<\/b> <b>students<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who will <\/span><b>research<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>history of different victims of Nazi persecution<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and share the findings with a wider audience through <\/span><b>co-created exhibitions, podcasts, graphic novels and heritage tours<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in their locale. The local place-based learning research activities will take place from <\/span><b>September &#8211; December 2024<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and local training activities for the participating students, including online\u00a0 international youth gatherings will take place <\/span><b>throughout the entire school year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with an <\/span><b>in-person International Youth Gathering taking place in April 2025, in Bratislava at the EuroClio Annual Conference where a smaller group of students will present their work, guided by their teachers.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We will select <\/span><b>one Team<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from each of the countries mentioned in the call. A Team consists of <\/span><b>two<\/b> <b>educators<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, for example, two history teachers from the same school, or one teacher and one museum educator or other education professional. We are looking for applicants who teach classes on totalitarianism, Holocaust memorials, and mid-20th-century histories of migration and persecution, including the persecution of the Roma and Sinti or queer and disabled communities by the Nazi regime and its collaborators.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Seminar will include sessions on the pedagogy of place-based learning, how to set up a place-based learning project with your students, developing competencies for democratic culture through Holocaust Education and working with archival sources.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The Seminar aims at:\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creating a network of interested history educators and other education professionals in the field;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Expanding the capacity of history educators to set up place-based learning projects with their students about the history of the Holocaust and Nazi persecution;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Drawing on the range of historical knowledge and expertise of the participants involved.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bridging the gap between historical knowledge and media literacy to debunk and counter misinformation about Nazism and its collaborators, fascist regimes, and collaborators who participated in crimes against various victim groups.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Developing specifically tailored microhistories and local histories that may be often overlooked.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>As a Team Members you, will:<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participate in the International Teacher Training Seminar on 8 and 9 August in Timi\u0219oara, Romania;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Implement a local place-based learning research project with your students, with guidance from experts within the project from September 2024 onwards;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attend the International Youth Gathering in April 2025 in Bratislava at the EuroClio Annual Conference.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>What we offer:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Costs for the participation in the International Seminar (including two nights of accommodation) and EuroClio Annual Conference are fully covered, including travel, accommodation and subsistence. This means that applications from Serbia will be reviewed by Terraforming, applications from Germany will be reviewed by Arolsen Archives, applications from Romania will be reviewed by Intercultural Institute Timisoara and applications from other countries in Europe will be reviewed by EuroClio.
