international experts and artists will create a set of educational materials about young Jewish victims murdered at the concentration camp at Sajmiste (Old Fairground) in Belgrade.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Educational materials will be developed by the international expert team consisting of historians, pedagogues, illustrators, new-media experts, experts on the pre-war Jewish life and culture in Serbia, gender perspectives experts, dramaturgs and designers from Serbia, Netherlands, Sweden,\u00a0Germany and Austria.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The work started a couple of days ago, and aim to be finished by 1. December 2016.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The project is supported by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.osce.org\/odihr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">OSCE\/ODIHR<\/a> in concept is based on several fundamental principles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Online-based, simple to access and ready to share through social-media channels<\/li>\n<li>Using new-media technologies as a pedagogical tool<\/li>\n<li>Based on presentation of local events in\u00a0the well known environments and locations in three\u00a0Serbian cities that will be\u00a0easy recognized by students<\/li>\n<li>Based on personal stories<\/li>\n<li>Focus on young victims for emphasized empathy and self-identification (in addition\u00a0to young victims&#8217;\u00a0families and friends)<\/li>\n<li>Main focus on\u00a0the pre-war Jewish life in Serbia<\/li>\n<li>Stories from three Serbian cities: Belgrade, Nis and Zrenjanin<\/li>\n<li>Graphic novel-style illustrations as a main medium\u00a0for learning and as a tool to\u00a0initiate critical thinking and debate in the classroom<\/li>\n<li>Using historical photographs,\u00a0archive documentation and other sources in parallel with illustrations in order to emphasize that the stories are based on historical facts<\/li>\n<li>Connection to the online victim&#8217;s database created by the Historical Archives of Belgrade<\/li>\n<li>Emphasizing the role of archivists and historians as important,\u00a0exciting and interesting professions<\/li>\n<li>Implementing more\u00a0gender perspectives in teaching and learning about the Holocaust<\/li>\n<li>Offering ready-made teachers manuals and lesson plans<\/li>\n<li>Providing different ways to use the materials: from a work group in the classroom to visits to A Story About The Old Fairground\u201d\u00a0is leaning on the results and outcomes of another international\u00a0cooperation:\u00a0the project \u201cEscalating into Holocaust\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.arhiv-beograda.org\/holokaust\/event-in-amsterdam\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">\u201cEscalating into Holocaust\u201d is a project run by the Historical Archives of Belgrade<\/a> in cooperation\u00a0with partners from Serbia, Croatia, Netherlands and Sweden.\u00a0The main project goal is to further support Holocaust remembrance, research and education, with particular aim to explore shared European aspects of the Holocaust by taking Holocaust in Serbia as starting point, in order to further discuss important current European challenges, and Holocaust as a shared European narrative that defines European values of diversity, tolerance and Human Rights.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Victim&#8217;s database<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the frames of that project, the Historical Archives of Belgrade is developing a database of the Holocaust victims murdered at the concentration camp at Sajmiste (the Old Fairground). This victims\u2019 database\u00a0served as inspiration and precondition for the educational materials \u201cHolocaust in Belgrade &#8211; A Story About The Old Fairground\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the international event <a href=\"http:\/\/terraforming.org\/graphic-novel-in-teaching-and-learning-about-the-holocaust\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">\u201cEscalating into Holocaust\u201d in april\u00a02016 in Belgrade, Terraforming organized a workshop<\/a> with international experts, Serbian teachers, representatives of the local Jewish communities, and other stakeholders, about the use of graphic novels in Holocaust education. For a long time the area where the camp was located was in a very poor condition. Recently, the Belgrade City Council announced the plans of building a permanent Memorial Center at the site. The Museum of Genocide Victims in Belgrade and the newly established Memorial Center Committee are now making plans for the Memorial Center and Museum, with aim to start the project in 2017.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>By putting the Concentration camp at Sajmi\u0161te in focus and by creating materials that could be used at the future Memorial, both initiatives\u00a0\u201cEscalating into Holocaust\u201d and the educational materials \u201cHolocaust in Belgrade &#8211;
