Marking the International Holocaust Remembrance Day
On the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Terraforming, the Jewish Youth Club Belgrade, and the Jewish Cultural Center Oneg Shabbat are organizing the program “Nikad Više je Danas” (Never Again is Now).
The program will be held on Thursday, January 25, from 18:30 to 20:30 at the Jewish Cultural Center (Jevrejska Street 16, Belgrade).
The exhibition “Some Words about the Holocaust in Serbia”
Visitors will have the opportunity to see the exhibition “Some words about the Holocaust in Serbia,” which presents the essential elements of the Holocaust in different parts of occupied Serbia through examples of personal stories. The author of the exhibition is Miško Stanišić. The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Belgrade supported the exhibition’s production.
Panel discussion “Never Again is Now”
During the evening, a panel discussion will focus on various aspects and challenges of the contemporary memory culture. The Holocaust remembrance is entering a new phase in a world where there will no longer be living survivors, in a new socio-historical, political, and cultural environment, in a post-truth world of instant consumption of effortlessly accessible content, and a growing need for an improved understanding of critical analysis of information sources and general media literacy. We are witnessing the increasing problem of distortion and abuse of history for the purpose of spreading nationalism and hatred. How do we shape the culture of memory in that world? Who shapes it, and how? Why is the memory of the Holocaust still relevant? In that context, how do we see the responsibility and accountability of cultural workers, media, and memory professionals?
