About the Event

How do we teach about the Holocaust in a digital environment shaped by algorithms, platforms, and rapidly spreading distortion? How can educators and memory institutions respond to online antisemitism and Holocaust denial without losing historical complexity, pedagogical integrity, or public trust? How will specialized Holocaust memory data spaces transform the way we teach and learn about the Holocaust? What pedagogical and ethical challenges do we face? And what role can the European Memory Data Space play in strengthening responsible, collaborative, and future-oriented Holocaust education?

This half-day event in Belgrade brings together educators, researchers, memory professionals, and digital practitioners to critically explore the challenges and possibilities of Holocaust education within the European Memory Data Space (EMDS). Through keynote inputs and panel discussions, the event addresses the impact of social media and algorithm-driven hate on Holocaust remembrance, examines EMDS as a framework for European dialogue, and highlights concrete best practices from Serbia.

With a particular focus on Holocaust distortion and antisemitism online, the program features leading international experts whose work examines how digital platforms shape contemporary hate and historical misuse, European research and data infrastructure initiatives, together with regional voices. This way, the event creates a unique space for exchange between international expertise and local educational practice.

By connecting critical analysis, practical experience, and emerging digital infrastructures, the event invites participants to rethink how Holocaust education can remain credible, resilient, and meaningful in a rapidly changing digital public sphere—and how EMDS can support this work across borders, languages, and generations.
