Statement after the antisemitic terrorist attack in Belgrade
We strongly condemn the terrorist attack on the Embassy of Israel in Belgrade, in which a member of the gendarmerie who worked on the security of the building was injured.
This attack is an obvious extreme form of antisemitism. It is a clear indication that antisemitism poses not only a threat to the Jewish community but to society as a whole, to the democratic order, and to social values. We welcome the condemnation of this attack unequivocally expressed by the officials of the Republic of Serbia, as well as the quick and decisive reaction of the adequate state services. At the same time, we expect the antisemitic character of this crime to be clearly emphasized, which is a prerequisite for deepening awareness and spreading knowledge and understanding of the public and relevant professionals about the dangers that antisemitism poses, not only to Jewish communities but to the fundamental democratic values and freedoms, and as such, to the entire society.
