A network of educators and young activists of remembrance culture
The project is scheduled to be implemented from March 2024 to February 2026. It aims to develop a network of educators and young remembrance culture activists engaged in preventing and combating Holocaust denial and distortion. The broader goal is to create a framework for intercultural dialogue and active citizenship.
For educators from Greece, Croatia, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Serbia, the project will offer a variety of professional development opportunities. In each of these countries, between 30 and 35 teachers and other education professionals will participate in intensive four-day seminars.
Following the seminars, participants will work with their students on projects rooted in local history. Through learning and research, students will gain a deeper insight into the history of their communities and share their findings in creative ways with a broader audience. They will also learn how to recognize and respond to Holocaust denial and distortion online. Later, at an international conference, students will have the opportunity to present their experiences in monitoring digital spaces and implementing local history projects.
This process will contribute to the formation of a European network of young ambassadors for the culture of remembrance and active citizenship. The most engaged educators, along with professionals from civil society and public institutions across ten countries, will take part in an international conference in Lithuania. There, they will share experiences in working with students through interdisciplinary approaches to Holocaust education and the promotion of human rights. The event will also explore concrete strategies for strengthening and expanding the European Network of Holocaust and Human Rights Educators, as well as ways to influence political decision-makers in the context of remembrance culture.
Two publications will result from the project:
-
A brochure showcasing local projects to inspire other young ambassadors to promote remembrance culture and democratic values.
-
A teacher’s manual focused on the role of women in the resistance.
