Financial support for travel and accommodation

Please note that a limited number of participants will receive financial support for travel and accommodation. Preference will be given to those with limited institutional resources. The authentic site at Topovske Šupe was the location of a German concentration camp that operated in late summer and autumn of 1941. Around 5,000 Jewish and 1,500 Roma men were imprisoned there before being executed at various killing sites in and around Belgrade. Today, the site remains neglected and endangered, despite its historical significance.

Call for Participants

As part of the project Pasostar ando Prastape – Breaking into a Gallop, an international incubator for rethinking and innovation in education about the genocide of the Roma during the Nazi era, we have already held two international workshops:

We now invite you to join the third international workshop: Inclusive Education and Commemoration of the genocide of the Roma, that will take place in Belgrade, Serbia, from 8 to 9 October 2025.

Note

The number of available spots is limited. Selection will be based on your motivation letter, with priority given to ensuring a diverse group of participants from as many different countries as possible.

All applicants who are able to cover their own travel and/or accommodation costs will be accepted, but they will not take the place of those applying for financial support.

Organizers

This workshop is organized by Terraforming (Serbia) in partnership with Centropa (Germany), TENET Center for Social Transformations (Ukraine), and the Intercultural Institute Timișoara (Romania).

Speakers and the program

Further information about the speakers and a detailed agenda will be provided soon. In the meantime, you can review the programs from previous workshops.

The workshop will be held in English. No translation from English will be provided.

A series of European workshops

Part of a broader series of European workshops, this event brings together educators, policymakers, and institutions to collaboratively address the challenges of teaching and commemorating the genocide of the Roma. Together, we’ll explore inclusive, innovative strategies for education and memory, grounded in the realities faced by educators today.

The Belgrade workshop will also include visits and work at local authentic sites connected to the history of the Roma during the Nazi era, providing powerful context and space for reflection and learning.

A key focus will be supporting the national implementation of the IHRA’s Recommendations on Teaching and Learning about the Persecution and Genocide of the Roma during the Nazi Era.

Supported by

The project is supported by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) Grant Program and the Stiftung Erinnerung, Verantwortung und Zukunft (EVZ) Foundation, with funding from the German Federal Foreign Office as part of the YOUNG PEOPLE Remember International program.
